ARRI – defining the standard in motion picture lighting

ARRI’s launch of Orbiter in September got quite a lot of attention. This new, directional LED fixture for motion picture, television production, broadcast, theatre, and live entertainment is of course powered by LumenRadio’s CRMX technology.

It was back in 2017 that ARRI released its first CRMX-powered product, and until then they had been waiting for a “standardization” of wireless DMX.  During this time, LumenRadio’s CRMX technology had started to be the de-facto standard in the motion picture and broadcast industry. “Actually, it has become a synonym for wireless DMX,” says Florian Bloch, Head of Product Management Lighting at ARRI.

ARRI is a global product manufacturer of camera equipment, lighting, and professional accessories for the motion picture, broadcast, theatre, and photographic industries. In addition, they provide a complete range of services to their clients, offering solutions for the entire production process, from script to screen.

“For several years we have been delivering wireless technology to ARRI, and we are proud to be part of the Orbiter as ARRI continues to set the standard in motion picture lighting,” says Josef Hederström, International Sales Manager at LumenRadio.

Because filmmaking and live entertainment is extremely time and cost-sensitive, wireless technology is a key component to keeping the costs down. The addition of LumenRadio CRMX allows for advanced and efficient setup and workflow ensuring every minute on-set can be used to its fullest.

“Since our first meeting, LumenRadio has proven its capabilities in all areas of the business. Their reliable project management, accurate application support, and technologies, but most of all, their great spirit and mindset helped to turn our previous customer-supplier relationship into real, sustainable cooperation between our companies,” says Florian Bloch.

ARRI’s CRMX-enabled products have been used at the Grammy Awards and during the production of several Oscar-nominated movies and have set a new standard for the industry. Since 2017, LumenRadio’s CRMX has been used in ARRI’s legendary products SkyLink and SkyPanel S360-C, enabling top-class wireless lighting for the film industry.

The combination of ARRI’s expertise in the world of motion picture lighting and LumenRadio’s expertise in wireless technology will surely lead to even more innovations.
“We expect nothing less than true innovation in wireless technology from LumenRadio. You have set the standards and you will surely continue to do so in the future,” says Florian Bloch.

LMP/LITECRAFT – a CRMX multitasker

LMP has been crowned our Distributor of the Year no less than three years in a row, but that’s not all our German distributor has to offer; through their brand LITECRAFT, LMP becomes a true CRMX multitasker.

LITECRAFT was established in 1980. Creating LED lighting solutions for the entertainment industry, LITECRAFT became a brand well-known to players big and small in Germany and Europe. Having started with mainly LED-PAR fixtures and accessory parts in the 1980s, the brand always kept an eye on evolving technologies; often pioneering in their implementation in entertainment applications.

Today LITECRAFT products are featured in all different kinds of productions, be it concert and touring, television and studio applications, theatre or trade shows. They provide state-of-the-art lighting solutions at a stunning price-performance ratio – enabled by LumenRadio’s CRMX technology.

A l
ong-term relationship
The brand LITECRAFT is born out of LMP, a long-term distributor of LumenRadio. Being familiar with the CRMX technology and its many benefits, the decision to choose LumenRadio was simple.
“We have had a strong relationship for many years, because of the general distribution of LumenRadio products in Germany, but also as an OEM customer for LITECRAFT. LumenRadio’s CRMX is the best technology due to Cognitive Coexistence – it’s as simple as that,” says Marc Petzold, CEO of LMP.

Wireless can solve problems and make projects happen that would not be possible with cabling. We’ve seen several cases ranging from installations in historic buildings up to huge stadium projects as well as thousands of small and mid-size events using wireless technology,” Marc continues.

Customer-focused development
The very first LITECRAFT product with CRMX technology on board was the BattLED AT5, using an OEM flex-card. Since the BattLED, a variation of products has followed – always with the customers interest in mind. The CX.1 Controller is their very first remote controller using CRMX technology. The CX.1 Controller using CRMX will be a tool for all mid-size productions to setup all 4ch LED products within seconds.
“The CX.1 is a product we were able to design in a very short time because of the support of LumenRadio, it is what customers have asked us for some time now,” says Marc.

By listening to their customers expectations, both LMP and LITECRAFT have made a name for themselves. And at LumenRadio we look forward to seeing our multitasker-Distributor/OEM make future strides in providing state-of-the-art wireless lighting in Germany and beyond!

In their own words;
This success in Germany is only possible thanks to two great teams – one in Sweden and one in Germany.

Luminair 3 adds support for LumenRadio’s MoonLite and TimoTwo

LumenRadio and Synthe FX have announced the immediate availability of a new update to Synthe FX’s Luminair 3 app that adds support for outputting DMX over Bluetooth to LumenRadio’s MoonLite™ and TimoTwo™ platform.

Luminair 3, from developers Synthe FX, is an iOS-based lighting control app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

“LumenRadio’s MoonLite™ is a new wireless DMX control product that incorporates an updated version of the company’s award-winning, ultra-reliable CRMX technology, combined with Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in battery.

MoonLite is built on TimoTwo™, LumenRadio’s new radio module that enables the next generation of wireless DMX communication. Built-in Bluetooth compatibility makes TimoTwo™ a dynamic platform, always evolving via software updates to offer users and manufacturers the latest wireless functionalities.”

The new functionality in Luminair v3.7.4 allows users to output DMX over an iOS device’s built-in Bluetooth hardware, directly to MoonLite™ and TimoTwo devices™. Special optimizations have been made to deliver the full Luminair app experience over low-bandwidth BLE connections. All features in Luminair are supported at a reduced frame rate, including FX, sequences and long fade transitions.

Connecting to a LumenRadio BLE device within Luminair is a simple one-step process. Users no longer need to configure a custom network or individual adapters. Just tap on the device listed in Luminair’s Bluetooth discovery window and a full universe of DMX will be output whenever that device is within range. Luminair can also output the same universe over Art-Net and sACN simultaneously with the Bluetooth output.

“The simple connection process will appeal to users working in fast-paced environments like Film and TV production, where it’s not always practical to set up a full network for lighting control”, says Ryan Hisey, founder of Synthe FX. “We’re thrilled that LumenRadio has created this new product platform that streamlines the wireless workflow for users, while simultaneously offering lighting manufacturers the ability to incorporate Luminair app compatibly directly in their products.”

“The Bluetooth compatibility in TimoTwo and MoonLite opens up to a totally new era of wireless DMX and we are happy that Luminair 3 now has support for outputting DMX over Bluetooth to LumenRadio’s new product platform. Synthe FX is a pioneer in this field and we’re excited that the entire Luminair app user base now has the ability to directly interact with our products.” says Niclas Norlén CTO at LumenRadio.

The Luminair v3.7.4 update is available now on the iOS App Store, as a free download for existing Luminair 3 customers. Pricing for new customers varies across regions. Full product information is available at

The DMXmesh™ option, which will be made available later on this year, enables flexible fixture placement and an extended range of your wireless communication.

With LumenRadio’s patent pending DMXmesh™ technology, every receiver and fixture will also act as a repeater, where all devices coordinate among themselves to make sure that the coverage is expanded in the most optimal.

Also, by using the DMXMesh™ option the time needed for installation and wireless commissioning will be greatly reduced for architectural and architainment illumination with no more site surveys or complicated planning for the wireless DMX distribution. The DMXmesh™ technology will let you focus on what is important; illumination, not on DMX distribution.

LumenRadio CRMX in Jurassic World

CRMX returns to Jurassic World

LumenRadio once again shows why it’s the leading brand of wireless DMX with it’s CRMX technology. As the de-facto standard, and the go-to technology, for wireless DMX within the feature film and TV industry; CRMX returned to Isla Nublar to help save the remaining dinosaurs that were left behind.

In the recently premiered blockbuster film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom LumenRadio’s CRMX technology played an important role; the CRMX technology was put to use for controlling ARRI Skylink fixtures throughout the sets. And once again LumenRadio showed why their technology is want is used by all major lighting manufacturers in the film industry, since it’s the only technology that can be used in the harsh wireless environments on set.

LumenRadio in Jurassic World - from the set in Hawaii

From the set in Hawaii

Large part of the movie was shot in the jungles of Hawaii where Lighting Console programmer Richard Rasmusen relied on the wireless DMX system from LumenRadio to save time – hence saving money for the production. When having effects in the jungle, pulling a control cable is simply not an option – turning to wireless DMX from LumenRadio was the logical choice for Richard with a multitude of wireless receivers scattered throughout the jungle for easy access to DMX wherever needed. “I’ve been using LumenRadio’s products almost every day for quite some time.  Through the ever changing weather conditions of the Hawaiian jungle and beaches LumenRadio products worked flawless. It saves so much time and trouble. The fact that the technology is built into almost all fixtures these days makes it so amazing!” says Richard.

Michael Karlsson, R&D Manager at LumenRadio elaborates: “We have been the de-facto standard used for wireless control in this industry for quite some time now – there simply are no other options that can deal with all the disturbances in the air at a busy set. Reliability is of essence here, if it doesn’t work – time is running. And time means money.”

Hive Lighting_LumenRadio
